Even after detailed research on the direct selling industry, there were several things I still had to learn. My research before joining QNET direct selling was about the industry, its competition and its credibility. It was a huge help in choosing the best company among hundreds of options. However, to run a highly effective and successful direct selling, there are many more things to learn and consider.
Understanding certain facts about the business can help one avoid confusion. If I know what is happening with the business, I can develop ideas and solutions. So, this article deals with things I wish I had known before starting the business. Learning these things about business can help one plan ahead. That is exactly what good research in direct selling will be like.
1)Direct Selling is hard work
Direct selling is widely considered an easy career. Compared to traditional businesses, it is less challenging and risky. However, there are challenges in direct selling like slow growth and rejections. To survive it, a great strategy followed by hard work is necessary. So, do not start the direct selling business, thinking that it’s an easy money-making career. In QNET or any other reputable and legitimate business, a person can only succeed with hard work and smart plans.
2)High chances of rejection
When I said direct selling has its type of challenges, I meant rejection, chances of failure and uninterested people. I first started my business with higher targets every week. Hard work was not a problem for me, and I was willing to work as much as hard to get to my dream. However, getting declined by multiple customers was shocking and an absolute letdown. It took me some time to accept the possibility of rejection and people who are uninterested in business. Again, not expecting the risk of rejection was the reason for shock. Later, understanding it helped develop ideas and tips to survive rejection.
3)Marketing skills are necessary

Being good at communication does not mean that marketing in business is all figured out. Even though good communication can greatly aid marketing, there’s more to it. Effective marketing comes from better knowledge about the products and business prospects. Know what the customer wants and what they look for in products or business. It is also about a trust-based relationship between the customer and distributor.
4)The industry is highly competitive
Well, I was aware of the competition in direct selling. There are hundreds of direct selling companies. However, I failed to pay attention to details. There are millions of direct sellers in India. So, the competition for a business owner in QNET is not with some other direct sales company but with the millions of other direct sellers. Plus, there will be plenty of businesspeople in one community. This doesn’t mean growth is impossible. With the right skills and plans, and most importantly, if one has good quality products and business prospects, success is possible.
5)Product knowledge is the key
Knowledge about the product is crucial. And I was well aware of the QNET products. In fact, I was confident in them because QNET has the best items with higher utility and is worth the money one spends. However, the problem occurred when I was only aware of the products I sold, not the products sold by my competitors or available in the market. Perfect product knowledge, including innovation, specifications, and utility, can help you when presenting or marketing.
6)Be prepared to face false allegations
Whether direct selling or a traditional business, false allegations can happen. In direct selling, it is way higher because people often misinterpret the business. There are many fraud schemes, some of them disguised as direct selling. I learned that direct selling has nothing to do with the pyramid, Ponzi or any get-rich-quick scheme. It takes time and effort to make people understand what direct selling is. So, the misunderstanding about direct selling can be a hurdle in the business. It is important to prepare for clearing up any such notions your customer might hold.
7)Never stop learning
Does the learning process over once I start the business? No, it was just the start. I knew learning was important, but that does not manifest in my actions. After I faced a severe offset, I realized that I seriously underestimated the significance of learning. In business, knowledge is a key player. Reading, learning from mistakes and considering all sources are important.
8)Know your target audience
Just meeting some random people is not networking or marketing. An effective and successful businessperson will know their target customer. What the customer wants and preferences is important. Their preferences, trends, and expectations should be considered in the research.
9)Social media marketing
I did my business through direct marketing. It means a better option because I had many connections in my community. But only in the latter days did I notice a better opportunity and reach through social media platforms. This is especially true considering my target audiences are young adults active on the online mediums. Later, I developed a strong social media account. However, it is important to have a digital presence from the beginning.
